SUWO European Tour 9th–14th June, 2012
SHEFFIELD UNIVERSITY WIND ORCHESTRA
Conductors: Anthony Houghton, Gareth Widdowson & George Morton
Sheffield University Wind Orchestra, the award-winning ensemble run by the Music Department, is representing Sheffield, the University and the Department abroad this June and is excited and honoured to be presenting concerts in wonderful venues in four countries during their seven-day, four-concert tour based in Maastricht in the Netherlands, with concerts in England, Belgium, Germany and Holland! An hour after its Firth Hall concert for the Summer Festival on the Saturday the Orchestra set off on its over-night coach journey to Holland.
Concerts in St Jan’s Kirk, Maastricht, Cathédrale des Saints-Michel-et-Gudule, Brussels, Eglise St Jacques, Liege as well as an open air performance in the Market Square in Monschau follow daily in a busy schedule.
The specially devised programmes for each venue are taken from a large selection of our repertoire and include two European premières. Conducting is shared between SUWO Director Anthony Houghton, Gareth Widdowson and George Morton and featured are three soloists from the Orchestra, Charlotte Barrett – Clarinet, Austin Castaneda – Euphonium, David Bramall – Flute and Hannah Lewin – Oboe.
