Music Department Composers win Cameron Mackintosh Award at National Student Drama Festival 2015
In late 2014, Paperfinch Theatre, a Sheffield-based theatre company created by Joe Bunce, put on an original, immersive adaptation of E.T.A Hoffman's The Nutcracker. The initial run of the show was from the 9th-20th of December 2014 at Bank Street Arts, Sheffield, with live band and original score. The show was later selected as one of only ten shows (nationally) to be performed at the National Student Drama Festival (NSDF) in Scarborough, 28th of March- 3rd April. The Nutcracker was very well received at the festival and awarded student composers Dominic Hartley and Matthew Malone, from the University of Sheffield Music Department, the Cameron Mackintosh Award for Best New Musical. The production was also awarded the Buzz Goodbody Award for Best Student Director and the Judge’s Award for Theatrical Imagination.
