George Nicholson's Soundings will receive its first complete performance on February 10 in a solo recital given by Sarah Watts at the Crescent Arts Centre as part of the Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble's season. Soundings is a series of eight solo pieces for bass clarinet lasting almost twenty minutes, and like the earlier work Darkness Visible for bass clarinet and piano, which was shortlisted for the British Composer Award in 2013, it explores the multiphonic sounds developed by Sarah Watts in her extensive research into the acoustic properties of the instrument.

The concert will begin at 7.30 and it also features music by Donatoni and by contemporary Irish composers.
