New SPARC research project

The Sheffield Performer and Audience Research Centre (SPARC), directed by Stephanie Pitts, is beginning a new collaboration with Birmingham Contemporary Music Group on the project ‘Understanding audiences for the contemporary arts’. This project aims to investigate the expectations and experiences of audiences for contemporary music, dance and art, by working with cultural organisations in Birmingham to share and evaluate audience development strategies. Dr Jonathan Gross has joined SPARC as a research associate on the project: he has previously completed a PhD on Proms audiences, and worked at the University of Leeds on an AHRC Cultural Value project, and he brings lots of relevant experience and fresh ideas to our team.
