Sheffield University Wind Orchestra's (SUWO) Silver Award at RNCM in NCBF Final
Once again the Wind Orchestra produced a wonderful performance to enhance its reputation to a wider public.
On the Sunday morning of 12 April 2015 in the Royal Northern College of Music's newly refurbished Concert Hall at the National Concert Band Festival's 30th Anniversary Final SUWO performed in the Open Class and attained a Silver Award (the adjudicators had ticked 9 Gold performance criteria boxes against 10 of the Silver ones in our report) - not bettered by any of the other Bands competing at that premier level, which included Cardiff and Oxford University's Symphonic Bands.
SUWO performed with confidence and musicality, quickly adapting to the new space like experienced professionals, to produce a lovely warm, balanced and blended sound and delivered a performance of passion and precision.
The programme was:
DEO GRACIAS (Guy Woolfenden)
TRAUERSINFONIE (Richard Wagner)
WINTER DANCES (Fergal Carroll)
The Band always strives to perform with dedication and pride and is delighted to be successful in promoting and showing the quality of the Department’s, the University’s and its students’ music making and gratefully acknowledges the generous support, financial and moral, that allows it to function and thrive at this level.
