Tim Shephard Speaks at International Music Conference
Tim Shephard spoke about his research into music and politics in Renaissance Italy at a major international music conference last week. Drawing on newly discovered evidence, he told the story of how in 1471 a miracle-working image of the Virgin Mary helped the Duke of Ferrara to see off a coup, and inspired him to found one of the largest chapel choirs in Europe.
Held at the University of Birmingham last week, the annual Medieval and Renaissance Music Conference is one of the largest music conferences in Europe, attended by around 230 scholars from right across the world. The University of Sheffield will host the conference in 2016.
