MA Sonic Arts


Applications for MA Sonic Arts are no longer being taken for academic year 2018/19. 

Academic Requirements:

We welcome applications from candidates with a 2:1 in Music or a combined degree with a substantial music component. The department also recognises the value of experience, and may accept applications from people who have been in practice, or who bring other experience to their studies. EU and international student entry requirements.

English Language Requirements:

For applicants whose first language is not English, IELTS is the preferred test of language. You will need an overall IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component, or equivalent. Further information on language requirements. The English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC) offers a wide range of English language courses and services if you are interested in studying at the University.

How to Apply:

You can apply for postgraduate study using our Postgraduate Online Application Form. It is a quick and easy process.

When you apply you will need to provide a portfolio of your composition work/sound art.

The portfolio can take many forms: recordings, scores, sound files, videos, live performance practice, among others. It should include one or two examples of your sonic arts and/or composition work, being somewhere between 5 and 20 minutes in duration.

To submit your portfolio:

  • Upload your files with your postgraduate online application
  • Provide an online link to your portfolio within your postgraduate online application.
