What is a Credibility Interview?

You are usually required to undertake a credibility interview at the visa application centre when you provide your biometric information.

Interviews are conducted in English by a Home Office staff member usually via video link.

For your application to be accepted, the Entry Clearance Officer must be satisfied that you are a genuine student and your English language ability is at the correct level.

You may be asked to attend a second interview. The Home Office will usually contact you by e-mail or telephone to arrange this.

You may be asked about:

  • Your finances
  • Your academic history
  • Your intention to study
  • Your personal background

The PDF below outlines some possible credibility interview questions and tips on how to answer them:

It is also possible that UKVI could contact you during the application to request more information from you. For example, they may wish to get more information from you on the source of the funds that you have shown evidence for on your visa application. If you are contacted and asked to provide any further information, you should contact us as soon as possible for further advice. We recommend contacting us either by live chat or in person in such cases.
