HEPPSY+

HEPPSY+ is an exciting new project that is part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme. The University of Sheffield are providing a range of activities including Discovery Days, supported Open Days, HEPPSY+ Brilliant Club programmes and Summer Schools.

HEPPSY+ is a collaborative project involving Higher Education providers in the region working with Year 9 - Year 13 students from designated wards in South Yorkshire, North East Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire where participation in Higher Education is lower than would be expected based on GCSE results.

The project is funded by HEFCE and aims to support the government’s goals to:

  • Double the proportion of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in Higher Education (HE) by 2020
  • Increase by 20% the number of students in HE from ethnic minority groups
  • Address the under-representation of young men from disadvantaged backgrounds in HE

More information about the project visit the HEPPSY+ central website.

Our Discovery Days

Discovery Days can be tailored to each groups’ requirements and schools can select a number of sessions from a list so the day will match the group’s needs and interests.

Examples of possible sessions include:

  • Campus tours
  • Career choices and employability
  • Student Finance
  • Personal Statements (for Year 12 students)
  • Q&A with Student Ambassadors
  • Students’ Union and Societies
  • Living in Student Accommodation
  • Subject Taster Sessions

Schools can also choose to combine a Discovery Day with our established Discover Study Skills sessions to help students develop the academic skills that will help them succeed.

Depending on staff availability, we are also able to support school or college-based events such as Higher Education days, Careers Fairs and Parents’ Evenings.
