Careers and Placement

careers

A postgraduate degree in Philosophy can be useful in many careers: employers value the independent thought and capacity for research such a degree provides.

Those hoping to make a career of philosophy should think about their CV from the start of their graduate work: choosing a range of courses, obtaining teaching experience, and publishing papers. The Department has a Postgraduate Careers Officer who handles placement. Recent graduates have obtained positions at these universities (among others): Aberdeen, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Cork, East Anglia, Edinburgh, Essex, Hamburg, Hong Kong, Keele, Kent, Lancaster, Leeds, Liverpool, LSE, Macquarie (Australia), Manchester, Manitoba (Canada), Minas Gerais (Brazil), Nottingham, Open, Oxford, Sheffield, Stirling, Trinity College Dublin, UNAM (Mexico), and York.
