Head of Analytics & Insight

Where did life take you after graduation?

I started as a TV airtime buyer, but the skills from my degree - particularly the analytical mindset philosophy gave me - led to a move to the Strategy team of the agency, then on to Analytics and Insight. I’m still at the same agency 12 years after graduation.

How has your degree helped you in your career?

Although it may not seem obvious, I genuinely think I use my degree every day in my job. Media is not an exact science, so analytical and interpretation skills are hugely important in making decisions on issues like how much to spend, what results we might expect and how to apportion success. The critical thinking and logic skills my degree gave me are invaluable in this.

What advice do you have for recent graduates?

A Philosophy degree gives you really valuable, transferable skills, so don’t fall into the trap of thinking it doesn’t make you employable. You can learn the skills of the job, but being able to think philosophically is a stand-out skill.
