Artefacts and Material Culture
This reading group is linked to the Department's AHRC Culture and the Mind Project. We will be discussing recent work in philosophy, psychology and anthropology on the cognitive structures underlying our interactions with artefacts and material culture. It will meet every other week alternating with the Philosophy of Psychology reading group.

We will start reading Kant's 'Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals' and see where it takes us from there. Meetings are Monday 2.10 in room 13.2a, starting week 3 (we will be reading the 'Preface' for that). Please come along!

We'll read some classical papers in the philosophy of maths during the first half the semester (we'll start with the Dummett/Wright exchange on the philosophical significance of Gödel's theorems); then we'll turn to topics in the philosophy of logic - logical consequence and logical pluralism.

Pragmatism and Kant
This group will study the influences of Kant upon pragmatism, beginning with issues about transcendental arguments and about the pragmatist use of the views expressed in Kant's schematism.
