Employers visit campus to talk to physics students about careers

Major employers from across the region came to the University of Sheffield's Firth Court to meet physics students looking for great opportunities to develop their future career choices.

Careers eventAt the Physics Industry Recruitment and Placement Fair, 420 physics students met with employers who each year recruit talented graduates from respected institutions such as Sheffield.

Organisations in attendance included BAE Systems, the National Space Academy, Grads In Games and the Institute of Physics and as well as Sheffield, students came from York, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Lancaster, Newcastle, Durham and Hull.

It was a chance for our students to explore their career options, make contacts, find out about graduate schemes, and start setting up placement years and summer internships.

The event was organised through the White Rose Industrial Physics Academy (WRIPA), a collaboration between the Universities of Sheffield and York that is dedicated to connecting physics students with our partners in industry.

In the Department of Physics and Astronomy, preparatory careers sessions for students ranging from first years to postgraduates were held ahead of the fair.

To follow on from this event's success, Sheffield staff will be helping to organise another careers fair in York on Wednesday 12 October, 2016 – find out more.
