Physics BSc and Astrophysics MSc
Bridget followed her undergraduate physics degree with our Astrophysics MSc course, and is now applying her analytics skills on a graduate training scheme at Natwest.

What did you enjoy most about your studies?

Throughout my degree I really enjoyed the wide range of topics that were available to study. The diversity and excellent teaching meant that every student was inspired by the department, which inevitably led to my motivation for doing a Masters in Astrophysics at Sheffield.

What are you doing now and what made you decide to go down that route?

I am currently doing a graduate scheme at NatWest Group in Strategy and Ventures. I have nurtured my analytical mindset throughout my degrees and learnt new skills, such as coding, which are all invaluable in this career.

How did your degree help you get your job?

The amount of support I received throughout my studies meant I was able to focus on nurturing all the important transferable skills, such as presenting, essay writing and problem solving.

What kind of skills from your course are you using in your job?

I use the analytical skills that my undergraduate course has taught me, meaning I’m able to come forward with perspectives that others are not able to immediately see. I will also use coding throughout my job which my masters has given me a solid understanding of.

What are you enjoying most about your job?

I love meeting new people and enhancing my skills even further by applying my knowledge that I have built up over my degrees in a way that I’ve never applied it before. I’m also enjoying the fact that people appreciate my opinion and perspective.

Bridget published a paper based on her masters research project, 'The evolution of protoplanetary disc radii and disc masses in star-forming regions'.
