Careers support

Advice, support and various work experience opportunities are available to all of our students throughout their degrees. All undergraduates do modules to help them develop essential research skills, alongside more general careers skills which are designed to make you more employable in a wide range of fields. Details of some of the schemes that can help to improve your employability are listed below.

In addition, the University Careers Service supports students and graduates up to three years after graduation. It provides services and support to help you:

Identify your career options
Develop and understand your skills
Find work experience, graduate jobs and opportunities for further study
Write CVs and applications
Prepare for interviews and assessment centres
Meet employers through recruitment fairs and presentations
Talk to a Careers Adviser in confidence about any career issue

The Careers Service website tells you what sort of things you can do with your degree. By visiting the Physics and Astronomy section, you can find out about what other Physics and Astronomy graduates have gone on to do, understand the skills that you have developed as part of your degree, and explore your options and find vacancies.

Students and graduates can register and log in to our vacancy database which includes hundreds of graduate jobs, part-time jobs, vacation work, voluntary work, internships, placements, insight courses and open days.
