PHY111 - Our Evolving Universe
This module provides a general overview of astronomy suitable for those with no previous experience of the subject. The principal topics covered are (i) how we deduce useful physical parameters from observed quantities; (ii) the structure and evolution of stars; (iii) the structure of the Milky Way, and the classification, structure and evolution of galaxies in general; (iv) an introduction to cosmology ; (v) extra-solar planets and an introduction to astrobiology. All topics are treated in a descriptive matter with minimal mathematics.
