The Ahead Scheme will open for the 2016-17 cycle on 9/5/17
Internship bursaries exclusive to taught postgraduate students in A&H departments Music, School of English and History.
Bursaries of £1000 are available for students to undertake a 100 hour internship through the Ahead Scheme. All current taught postgraduate students with a home department of either Music, School of English or History at the University of Sheffield are eligible to apply for the scheme. A limited number of bursaries are available.
Where can the internship take place?
The Ahead Scheme aims to provide work experience with organisations that may otherwise be unable to take on an intern.
Eligible organisations include charities, community groups, social enterprises, small commercial firms (up to 250 employees) and those in the public sector.
The work must take place at the premises of the organisation and cannot be home-based.
The internship can be based in the UK or further afield.
Create your own internship by:
- approaching a suitable organisation to discuss an internship with them
- Send them a copy of ‘Ahead Guidance for hosts 2016-7’
- If they are willing to offer you an internship, you must apply for an Ahead bursary immediately using this link. (Available from 9/5)
The internship, and the bursary, is not confirmed until all the details have been approved by the Ahead team and the essential documentation has been completed. Once you have submitted your bursary application it will be reviewed by the Ahead team and you will receive a response as soon as possible.
Bursaries are awarded on a competitive basis to those who can demonstrate that the experience will benefit them professionally. A limited number of bursaries are available for each Department.
