Welcome to the Department of Politics and International Relations

Please allow me to introduce myself as Head of School. My name is Professor Fliss Matthews and I joined the University of Sheffield in 2012. It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Politics and International Relations, to our fantastic campus, and to the wonderful city that is Sheffield. 

We are proud of our strong and diverse Department community of students and staff, and we want to make sure that that you quickly feel part of this. We hope you will take the chance to meet as many of us as you can in the early weeks of your studies. We encourage you to raise any questions, comments or concerns that you may have as you settle in.  There are lots of people you can approach in the Department, including your academic tutor, your lecture and seminar tutors, and our student support team.  

There is so much on offer to you as a member of the Politics and International Relations community, both in terms of student support and extra-curricular opportunities, and our communications to you over the coming weeks will highlight some of the opportunities that will be available to you.

I look forward to welcoming you all in person soon.  Until then, I wish you the best of luck with your studies and hope you enjoy your first experiences of Sheffield.
