Scholarship for Excellence Awarded to Study Abroad Politics Student
A Politics student has been awarded a British Council Scholarship for Excellence and is now preparing to spend the next academic year studying in Hong Kong.
Christopher Yates, a BA International Relations and Politics student, is taking part in the University of Sheffield’s Study Abroad scheme and decided to apply for the Scholarship for Excellence after reading about it on the British Council’s website.
The Scholarships for Excellence, worth up to £4,000 depending on how long students stay in Hong Kong, are an excellent opportunity for students studying at higher education institutions in England to spend from a semester up to a year studying in Hong Kong as part of their degrees.
Christopher said: “I am very happy to be given the scholarship – it’s not often you can be given a scholarship of this size and it means that my plans to travel next year are now much more affordable.
“I hope to gain an insight into Chinese culture and see how a shared British and Chinese past has influenced Hong Kong. It will also be interesting to see the differences in political attitudes between Hong Kong and the UK.
“The scholarship will help me to travel around Asia, to countries such as Vietnam and South Korea. The experience of living in Asia for a year is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, which I am enthusiastically looking forward to.”
