New European Populism Book Edited by Politics PhD Student
Politics PhD student Clara Sandelind has edited a new book entitled European Populism and Winning the Immigration Debate.
The new book explores the bases of anti-immigration arguments and ways to refute them. The authors discuss support for populist, anti-immigration parties in the wake of the financial crisis, addressing questions such as;
- How do these parties behave and what strategies do they use to gain support?
- Why may voters be attracted to them?
- Are there effective ways for other parties to respond?
Clara Sandelind is currently studying for a PhD in the Department of Politics and her thesis title is: Nationalism and Attitudes to Immigration. Clara's thesis addresses the issues of whether and how national identity can be used as a tool to change the predominantly negative attitudes to immigration amongst the European public.
