Dr Alasdair Cochrane will be speaking about ‘beastly politics’ at BBC Radio 3’s Festival of Ideas next weekend.

Dr Cochrane, who was named as a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Thinker earlier in 2014, will be joining fellow New Generation Thinkers at the Festival of Ideas, a weekend of provocative debate, new ideas, music and performance, running from 31 October – 2 November 2014 at Sage Gateshead. This year’s theme is ‘The Limits of Knowledge’.

Alasdair Cochrane believes that the exclusion of non-humans from civic institutions cannot be justified, and explores recent attempts to re-imagine a political world that takes animals seriously. Speaking on Sunday 2 November at 15:35, he will address such question as: Is man the only political beast? Can other animals be regarded as members of our democratic communities, with rights to political consideration, representation or even participation?

It is free to attend Dr Cochrane’s talk, but tickets are limited to a maximum of four per person. For more details and to book, visit: http://www.sagegateshead.com/event/ngt-alasdair-cochrane/.
