Last month a team from the University of Sheffield attended the G7 Summit in Germany to report back on the latest developments in global politics.

As part of the Global Leadership Initiative, our  students and staff have the opportunity to take on the role of policy analysts at major international summits. Their reports are featured in the well-respected journal Global Policy.

Led by Dr Garrett Wallace Brown (Department of Politics) and Professor Hugo Dobson (School of East Asian Studies), the team for the 2015 G7 Summit included Mihaela Gruia, Dominik Hatiar, Lucy Pedrick and Greg Stiles.

They prepared policy and media briefs which made the proceedings of the summit and their implications easily digestible. Topics covered include climate change, the Ukraine crisis, and the role of Japan at international summits.

After the summit, Dr Brown said:
"The Global Leadership Initiative offers a fantastic opportunity for our students. It heightens employability skills and allows for collaboration with academics to publish real-time, cutting-edge policy analysis. At the G7 in Germany, the students employed their sharp analytical skills to deliver exceptional policy briefs that have already helped others make sense of the complexities involved with global politics."
