Research interests

PhD title: The new politics of industrial policy: exploring the causes and the consequences of the post-crisis reform of EU state aid regulation

Supervisors: Matthew BishopLiam Stanley

Brief summary: This PhD investigates the post-crisis reform of EU state aid regulation and the corresponding shift from an emphasis on state aid control towards a more proactive policy of state aid provision within the European Union. It does so by adopting a global political economy perspective which considers not only how EU policy actors perceive their own position in a changing world economy, but also their beliefs about the nature of competition and competitiveness, as well as the symbioses and tensions between these two.
