James Jackson is a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Sheffield. He holds a BA (Hons) in Media & Anthropology and an MA in Political Science (British Politics and the State). James is an experienced policy analyst and is currently working in local government in transport policy. He is responsible for the development and delivery of sustainable transport initiatives, analysis, and writing of transport policies and strategies. He is also working alongside various government organisations, including the Department for Transport (DfT), the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and the Energy Saving Trust (EST).
James is interested in the relationship between environmental policy and domestic economies in achieving social change. How sustainable transitions take place in various sectors, and the ability that nation-states have to facilitate this change, is the aim of his PhD research.

PhD title: Driving towards climate change - the barriers to decarbonising the automobile sector
Supervisors: Professor Charlotte Burns & Professor Ian Bache
Brief Summary: His research interests lie in the areas of Environmental Politics, Transport Policy, Political Economy, Media & Politics. His PhD research is on the transition towards low carbon transport, with a particular focus on the transition to electric vehicles. The research will conduct a comparative analysis between the UK and Germany in order examine the variability of environmental policy on the automobile sector.
