EU student eligibility for PhD Scholarships

Find out if you are eligible as an EU student for the University of Sheffield, Research Council Scholarships and other potential projects and schemes.

Applications for PhD scholarships scholarships for the 2020-21 academic year are now closed. In the interest of fairness, late applications will not be accepted. EU Students

University Scholarships

All EU Students are entitled to apply for University of Sheffield Research Scholarships

The majority of these scholarships will provide EU fees and a maintenance stipend.  Some may consist of a fee payment or a stipend contribution.  They may also offer additional support to EU students in receipt of a Fees-only Research Council award

Research Council scholarships

The University has awards supported by a variety of UKRI's Research Councils.

EU applicants who have been resident in the UK for at least 3 continuous years immediately preceding the start of their course are eligible for awards which cover tuition fees and a maintenance stipend at the RCUK rate (£15,009 in 2019-20).  EU applicants who do not meet this residency criteria are eligible for a fees-only award.

Other funding bodies

Many charities, foundations and trusts provide funding for postgraduate study, from small grants to full scholarships.  Some are for specific subject areas while others have more general eligibility criteria - see our list of additional funding.
