EU student eligibility for PhD Scholarships

Find out if you are eligible as an EU student for the University of Sheffield Scholarships, Research Council Scholarships and other potential projects and schemes.

EU and EEA students who start their programme from the 2021/22 academic year onwards, and who do not have settled status, pre-settled status (also meeting residency requirements) or indefinite leave to remain in the UK, will be classed as international students and therefore liable for overseas fees.

University Scholarships

All EU Students are entitled to apply for University of Sheffield Research Scholarships

The majority of these scholarships will provide UK home fees and a maintenance stipend at the UKRI rate (£15,285 in 2020/21).  Some Faculty awards may consist of a fee payment or a stipend contribution.

Research Council scholarships

The University has awards supported by a variety of UKRI's Research Councils.

EU applicants are eligible for awards which cover tuition fees and a maintenance stipend at the RCUK rate (£15,285 in 2020/21)

Other funding bodies

Many charities, foundations and trusts provide funding for postgraduate study, from small grants to full scholarships.  Some are for specific subject areas while others have more general eligibility criteria - see our list of additional funding.
