Our open evening gives you the opportunity to:

  • take a postgraduate campus tour
  • talk to staff about postgraduate opportunities and learn more about postgraduate funding, how to apply and other important issues 
  • meet and chat to current postgraduate students and alumni

Your day, your way

Our open evening is completely flexible.

Drop in at any time. You can stay all evening. Choose the activities that are most important to you, and do them in any order you like. All you need to do is register when you arrive at the Discovery Rooms.

    Masters exhibition and networking space

    You'll be able to pick up a postgraduate prospectus from the exhibition in the Discovery Rooms and find out about any aspect of masters study at Sheffield.

    Staff will be on hand to discuss your options for postgraduate study, and give you advice on finance, careers, applying, and more.

    Chat to current masters students and alumni about their experiences of Sheffield.


    These 20-minute talks will all run in INOX Suite 3 (you can access this room from the exhibition in the Discovery Rooms). Seating might be limited. If this is the case it will be first-come first-served.

    5.15pm: How to apply

    Experts from our Admissions team will talk you through the postgraduate application process.

    5.40pm: Where can masters study take me?

    Colleagues from our Careers Service explain the benefits of postgraduate study and where it can lead.

    6.05pm: Postgraduate taught finance and funding

    Representatives from our Finance team will guide you through a range of funding opportunities.

    6.30pm: The Sheffield Postgraduate Experience

    Current postgraduate students and alumni share their experiences and take your questions about what makes Sheffield special.

    Central campus tours (20 minutes)

    Join our student ambassador for a whistle-stop tour of our central campus. The route will also lead you past our two main libraries – why not pop in for a library tour? (details below)

    • Enquire at the Campus Tour stand in our exhibition space in the Discovery Rooms

    • Want to extend your tour? Pick-up a self-guided tour leaflet at the campus tour stand and explore more of our campus at your own pace.

    Library tours (15 minutes)

    Explore one or both of our two largest libraries on student-led tours. You can also find out more about all of our libraries at the libraries stand in our masters study exhibition.

    • Ongoing from 5.15pm–6.45pm

    • Look out for a student ambassador as you arrive

    • Western Bank Library (map ref 103) – spaces to inspire work. Arts and humanities, sciences, social sciences. Research materials, archives and special collections.

    • Information Commons (map ref 133) – the ultimate work-space for students to meet up and work together. Open 24/7. Core text collection.
