Opportunities for Public Engagement 2021: Pop Up University and Off the Shelf Festival
Partnerships and Regional Engagement present two exciting opportunities for academics at all career stages to create innovative content to engage wide public audiences - both digitally and in person.
Pop Up University: 17-19 September 2021
Pop-Up University is aimed at providing early-career researchers and academics with little or no previous experience the chance to undertake public engagement with research. This includes the opportunity to take part in a mentoring session with an experienced member of staff and support in the creation of an activity.
Pop-Up University takes place in the alternate year to Festival of the Mind. There will be both a digital programme of events and COVID-safe, in-person activities in Tudor Square and the Winter Garden in Sheffield City Centre.
- Short videos
- Correspondence pack activity ideas based on making - suitable for children and families
- In-person activities in the Winter Garden/Tudor Square

Off the Shelf Festival of Words - Ideas Alive programme 15-30 October 2021
We are delighted to invite academics, with a recent publication of interest to the general public, to propose a podcast or short film to be showcased at the prestigious Off the Shelf Festival of Words. A publication can be an article, journal or book published in the last 12 months (or by 30 October 2021).
In celebration of 30 years Off the Shelf, we would like the content created to reflect research making a difference in Sheffield and the city region. This is your chance to engage with an animated audience with a thirst for knowledge.
