For students whose initial registration was prior to the 2020-21 session
 
 

Year 1


A person may be admitted as a student who:

has reached a standard in Architectural Design satisfactory to the Faculty;

and

has been exempted from the Part 1 Examination of the Royal Institute of British Architects, or a qualification recognised by the Board as equivalent.


The Faculty may, in addition, require a student to have had relevant practical experience, gained away from the University, before commencement of the programme of study. In this instance, a student will be initially registered on ARCU125, ‘Architecture –Year In Practice’, with the expectation of progression to ARCU126 upon completion of the practical experience.  A person who has completed an equivalent course of practical experience at another institution may also be admitted.


The programme of study will be pursued for two sessions full-time.

The Part I Examination will be held during the first session. A student will pass all units before proceeding to the second session.

The Part II Examination will be held during the second session.

A student must achieve a mean grade of not less than 49.5 in order to be eligible for the award of the Degree of MArch in Architecture.

A student who satisfies the requirements for the award of the Degree of MArch in Architecture may on the recommendation of the Examiners be awarded a mark of distinction.
