A student will take CIV395 Year in Industry before proceeding to Level 4. A student will be responsible for securing a suitable industrial placement in order to take CIV395 Year in Industry. The appropriateness of the placement will be determined by the department’s Year in Industry Tutor. A student who fails to obtain a suitable placement will instead be required to become a student for the Degree of BEng Civil Engineering (CIVU17).
3C
CIV395 requires that a student will spend a minimum of 38 weeks working in an industrial establishment, the arrangements being subject to the approval of the department’s Year in Industry Tutor. The Year in Industry will be assessed on (a) written reflections on a skills-based placement journal; (b) two written reports; and (c) a post-placement presentation. No grades will be awarded for the Year in Industry which will be assessed on a pass/fail basis. A student who fails to satisfy these requirements may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a student for the Degree of BEng Civil Engineering (CIVU17).
