PGDE Postgraduate Diploma in Education (EDUT207)     FT

Year 1


This programme of study is non-modular.


1

A person may be admitted as a full-time student who;

(a) has the appropriate qualifications and has passed any necessary tests to meet the national entry requirements for teacher training, or holds equivalent qualifications approved by the Head of School; and

(b) has satisfied statutory requirements regarding criminal record and health checks.

The programme of study will be pursued for one session.

A student will take

Full academic year
EDUT207  PGDE 120 credit in connection with EDUT207 ACAD YR 120 credits

Each student will follow a course (unit EDUT207) which includes:

 

(a) Curriculum studies, including teaching methods;

(b) Professional studies, including work on understanding schools and classrooms;

(c) School experience, comprising not less than one hundred and twenty school-based days;

(d) Additional studies which may be prescribed for an individual student by the Head of School;

(e) Any other specifications as required by the relevant statutory bodies.

The assessment will comprise of:

 

(a) Course assignments and requirements in 4(a) to (d);

(b) School experience (assessed by schools and moderated by the University);

(c) Requirements as in 4(e), if appropriate.

A student who successfully completes all parts of the course at Masters level as listed above at 4(a), (b), (c) and (d), including any related assessment as specified above at 5(a), will be awarded one hundred and twenty M-Level credits.

A student who fails to satisfy the Examiners in any component of the University assessment may be permitted by the Faculty to repeat that component (or equivalent prescribed by the Board of Examiners) on one occasion within the following three semesters.

A student who successfully completes all parts of the course as listed above at 4(a), (b), (c) and (d) and has been awarded sixty Masters credits in respect of 5(a), will be eligible instead for a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (EDUT003).

A student who has been awarded sixty credits in respect of 4(a), (b) and (d) and 5(a) above but has failed to meet the requirements of the professional body in respect of 4(e) and 5(b) above will be eligible instead for a Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Professional Studies (EDUT171).

A student who successfully completes 5(a) at H-Level plus 5(b) and 5(c) above will, if the Examiners deem they have passed at least sixty credits to the appropriate level, be eligible instead for a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (EDUT185).
