4B

A student will take language units to the value of 20 credits in the same language as that chosen at Level 1.

5

Before proceeding to Level 3 a candidate will participate in a Skills Week (including industrial visits), the arrangements being subject to the approval of the Head of Department.

6

Before proceeding to Level 3, a candidate for the Degree of MEng in Materials Science and Engineering (Modem Language) (MATU10) must achieve a weighted mean grade of 60 at Level 2. A candidate who fails to meet this requirement may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a candidate for the Degree of BEng in Materials Science and Engineering (MATU05).

7

The Head of Department may, on the basis of the candidates examination performance and in accordance with procedures approved by the Faculty, require a candidate who has taken the programme of study prescribed at 1, 2 and 5 to become instead a student for the Degree of BEng in Materials Science and Engineering (MATU05).

8

The Industrial Placement will normally be undertaken in a country appropriate to the language taken at Levels 1, 2 and 4.

9

A candidate must pass MAT4580 (Research Project and Literature Review) at the first attempt in order to be eligible for the award of the Degree of MEng in Materials Science and Engineering (Modem Language). A student who fails to satisfy this requirement may be awarded the Degree of BEng in Materials Science and Engineering (MATU05).

10

The Modern Languages Teaching Centre will assist the student in the selection of appropriate language units based on prior knowledge, language chosen and programme taken.
