CIV6275   Structural Design and Fire Resistance of Medium Rise Steel-framed Buildings   (15 credits)

Year Running: 2017/2018
Credit level: F7
Pre-requisites   CIV6215

Description

The course considers the structural design of medium rise multi-storey steel-framed buildings and includes an overview of fire hazard in buildings and the measures necessary for life safety and containment of losses. In addition to a detailed consideration of traditional design approaches to the design of composite braced frames at ambient temperatures, new design strategies for their structural fire resistance will be discussed. These approaches will be supported by the evidence of recent research including the results of full-scale fire testing at Cardington. Advanced methods of analysis and simulation, and the influence of various parameters will be addressed.
