CPE6020   Computational Fluid Dynamics   (15 credits)

Year Running: 2017/2018
Credit level: F7

Description

The module develops the use of computational fluid dynamics in a broad range of engineering flow problems. The fundamental governing differential equations of time-dependant three-dimensional fluid flow and the techniques available to evaluate these equations numerically are presented. The module builds on a knowledge of differential equations and fluid flow and integrates this information into a design and research skill. In particular, the following are highlighted: governing differential equations, turbulence modelling, non-isothermal flow, reacting flow, buoyant flow, display techniques, grid generation, co-ordinate systems, time dependence and non-dimensional parameters. Each student completes an approved individual computational project. The module aims to develop student¿s awareness of and capabilities in the use of CFD in design and research. It also aims to enlarge the student¿s understanding of the differential equations of flow and scalar transport.
