Year Running: 2017/2018
Credit level: F7

Description

This module explores the relationship between policing, soldiering and neoliberalism within the field of security governance. Through a series of national and international case studies, it addresses such issues as: the social, political, economic and technological factors precipitating the rise of private policing and private soldiering; the everyday impact of these market actors on civilians, police officers and soldiers; the theory and practice of controlling these market actors through state and non-state regulatory practices; and the blurring of the longstanding distinctions between `national' and `international', `public' and `private', `policing' and `soldiering' within the contemporary security sector.
