NeBook cover: Socialist Realism, Evgeny Dobrenko and Natalia Jonsson-Skradolw publication on socialist realism

The Prokhorov Centre's Evgeny Dobrenko and Natalia Jonsson-Skradol have published (16 March 2018) the first collection of essays to offer a variety of alternative perspectives on the literary and cultural Sovietisation of Central and Eastern Europe after World War II.

Socialist Realism in Central and Eastern European Literatures under Stalin: Institutions, Dynamics, Discourses (Anthem Press, 2018) shows that the introduction of the Soviet cultural model was not quite the smooth endeavour that it was made to look in retrospect, but rather a continuing work-in-progress, often born out of a give-and-take with local authorities, intellectuals, and interest groups.
