Objectives:

  • To test and further develop the IWA/IAHR framework for describing and estimating uncertainties on large scale conceptual as well as integrated detailed models.
  • To assess the influence of rainfall data uncertainties (spatial and temporal).
  • Develop a methodology for directing model improvements to include uncertainty analysis in model-based decision-making processes at a catchment level.
Tasks and methodology: ESR7 will collaborate with ESR11 on implementing methods in quantifying uncertainty when predicting pollutant transport in sewer network software. ESR7 will be seconded to Waterways to test commercial applicability of uncertainty analysis methods’ with a focus on wastewater treatment. To assess the influence of rainfall data uncertainties and direct further research on rainfall radar, through collaboration with ESR10 (UBris). Develop a methodology for directing model improvements to include uncertainty analysis in model-based decision-making processes at a catchment level.
Results: : Further development of the IWA/IAHR framework (D1.1, D4.2). Improved version of integrated model Infoworks ICM version of Eindhoven catchment. Manuals and guidelines on practical application of uncertainty analysis frameworks and efficient data collection (D6.7, D6.2). Journal papers on uncertainty framework, propagation of uncertainties, advanced data management, model based decision support.
Dissemination: Journal papers, Manuals and guidelines on application uncertainty analysis frameworks and effective data collection, Two presentation/year as MC Ambassador, incl specific to inhabitants Eindhoven catchment area. Annual conference presentations.
Planned secondments: : To Waterways (3 months), test commercial applicability of uncertainty analysis methods. To USFD (1 month), Collaboration on suggesting improvements in sediment/pollutant transport modules in hydrodynamic sewer network modelling software.
