How to apply for maternity assistance from the University


Before completing this form please contact the Student Advice Centre to enquire whether you are entitled to any government financial assistance during your pregnancy, such as Statutory Maternity Pay or Maternity Assistance:

When to complete the form

If you are not eligible for assistance from another organisation/government, please complete this form at least two months before commencement of your maternity leave.


The maternity leave needs to be already approved and entered in your record (you need to request a Leave of Absence for parental reasons and submit it to your department alongside the MATB1 form you have received from your midwife).

Bank details

In order for the University to make any payments, you need to provide your UK bank account details.

For other assistance please contact the PGR Scholarships Team. Depending on the funds available, we may be able to offer you a one-off payment of £1,500. 

It is expected that the minimum period of leave will be 6 weeks.
