Independent Scientific Review

Following the approval of the project's costing record, your project will need to be independently scientifically reviewed.

Projects where the University is the research governance sponsor

The University takes the position that externally-funded projects are scientifically reviewed via the external funder's peer review process.

Student projects, where the University has agreed to be the research governance sponsor, may be reviewed by the student's supervisor. Written confirmation that independent, scientific review of the project has been undertaken must be provided by the supervisor to the department's healthcare governance administrator.

Staff projects which are not in receipt of external funding, where the University has agreed to be the research governance sponsor, also require independent, scientific review. The lead researcher should contact their department's Director of Research to arrange for the project to be scientifically reviewed. An application form for scientific review can be downloaded from the right-hand download box. Confirmation of this review should then be supplied to the department's  healthcare governance administrator.

Projects where another organisation is the research governance sponsor

If another organisation is the research governance sponsor and your project is not externally-funded then, normally, you should follow the research governance sponsor's own scientific review procedure.
