Welcome to the Dainton Graduate Research Centre

The Graduate Research Centre provides study space specifically for Postgraduate Research Students, and is now open over the weekends and evenings. If you are not a Research student you can find details for alternative study space here.

To be granted access to the GRC and be able to book a study space, you will need to complete the GRC application form which can be found here

In order to access the building and the GRC during the evenings and weekends, you will need out of hours swipe access on your Ucard, and must ensure that your out of hours and fire safety training is completed on the Health & Safety Training web page. Changes to your swipe access can take a few days, so please ensure you complete your GRC application form and safety training well in advance.

Once you have completed the application form and we have confirmed your access has been granted, you will be able to book a desk space online through ‘Resource Bookings’ located in MUSE services. Bookings can be made for a 9am-Midnight period, available 7 days a week. Please note cleaning staff will not be working over the weekend period, so please take special care when cleaning/sanitising your desk space before and after use. To book a desk space through the Resource Booking system click on 'Book by Category' and then select 'Postgraduate Research Desks'. If you need further information or assistance with your booking please visit the Resource Booking System web page.

Due to COVID-19, social distancing measures remain in place within the centre, which will limit the amount of computers in use. We ask that all students use only the computer they have booked through the resource booking system, to ensure the safety of all users. It is also essential that students use the cleaning equipment supplied in the centre, to wipe down their work stations before and after use. Please ensure you wear a face covering when moving around the centre and when good ventilation is difficult to maintain, as per the university guidance here. You may remove your face covering when seated at your desk and ventilation in the room is good, so please open the windows before removing your mask and ensure you are at least 2 metres from other users. As members of the university community, it is our social responsibility to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by ensuring good conduct and behaviours and adhering to relevant COVID guidance, failure to adhere to the rules will be fully investigated.

The social distancing restrictions have limited the number of spaces available, which means booking a space is essential. There are bookable desk spaces available on both Floor D and Floor C in the GRC. Research students will be able to book one session per day (9am-Midnight), up to twice per week. Bookings can be made up to 9am on the day of the booking, and up to one week in advance.

The Dainton Graduate Research Centre offers research students dedicated and bookable work spaces at the heart of the campus. The centre has been designed with students' needs in mind. It has wireless connectivity, flexible work space, and kitchen facilities. We ask that all students keep their work space clean, removing any items or rubbish at the end of each session.
