Former Dean of ScHARR Retires from the University after 20 years
A farewell drinks reception was held by friends, family and colleagues on 4 October 2013 to celebrate Ron Akehurst’s retirement from the University.
Ron joined the University in October 1993 and was responsible for developing the Sheffield Centre for Health and Related Research (SCHARR). Later this became the School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR), a major academic centre for Health Services Research with an international reputation and over 300 staff. His primary role in the University was as Head of Department until he stepped down as Dean in August 2010 after 17 years. He was also very influential across the University and externally in developing highly productive wider collaborations between academia and colleagues across both public and private sectors.
Colleagues look forward to maintaining a link with Ron in his new role as an Emeritus Professor.
