ScHARR contributes to CONSORT 2010 statement: extension to randomised pilot and feasibility trials
Prof Mike Campbell from ScHARR has been part of a team which has added to the CONSORT 2010 statement. This is a guideline designed to improve the transparency and quality of the reporting of randomised controlled trials (RCTs). In research published in the BMJ, the research presents an extension to that statement for randomised pilot and feasibility trials conducted in advance of a future definitive RCT.
Prof Campbell says, "Pilot studies are important to ensure that main trials are well designed and answer appropriate questions. However, they are often poorly reported, if at all, and so often are of little use to other researchers. We hope that this CONSORT statement for pilot trials will ensure that they are reported better and lead to better designed main trials".
