Profile

After studying for a BSc (Hons) in Genetics in Sheffield I went on to study Sport Management and began working in the Health and Fitness industry. This in turn led me to develop an interest in exercise referral and health promotion, leading to me taking up my first NHS Public Health post in 2004. Further academic study in Health Promotion led to my taking up a post on the Yorkshire and Humber Public Health training programme. As part of this programme I undertook the ScHARR MPH, and the Faculty of Public Health´s membership examinations, before joining the Section of Public Health as an Honorary Lecturer in addition to my NHS service work.

I am currently based full time within the Public Health Directorate at NHS Sheffield, and take a lead on obesity, physical activity and food, immunisation and health gain and behaviour change.

Research interests: I am interested in applied Public Health research and developing the links between academia and Public Health practice. I have been involved with the South Yorkshire CLAHRC, initially within the Health Inequalities theme and more recently with the Obesity theme, and also have interests in behavioural change and health gain within health and social care settings.

Teaching interests: I have taught on the MPH course for the past 2 years and was joint module co-ordinator on the Assessing Health Needs and Addressing Health Inequalities module. I also contribute to the delivery of Public Health teaching within the Medical School.

Professional activities and memberships: I am a Member of the Faculty of Public Health and Chaired its Specialty Registrars´ Committee between September 2009 and March 2011.
