- Profile
-
I am professor of health services research and work in the Centre for Assistive Technology and Connected Healthcare (CATCH). My research focuses on the development, implementation and evaluation of technology-enabled innovations in health and social care. I also work on projects in India and some other low- and middle income countries. These international projects also focus on the use of technology to improve health and wellbeing of people with support needs in low resource settings.
Over the past 25 years I have been working as an application-oriented researcher in the field of long-term care and assistive technology, until October 2016 in the Netherlands, where I was a professor at Maastricht University and Zuyd University of Applied Sciences. I am an active board member of the AAATE (Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe) and the Global Alliance of Assistive Technology Organisations (GAATO).
- Research interests
-
My current research can be divided into four themes: assistive technology service delivery; care robotics; digital healthcare solutions; technologies applied to global health challenges.
Current Projects
- Lead of the healthcare strand of the PITCH-In (connecting capabilities for the internet of things) programme pitch-in.ac.uk/
- Participant in the Sustainable Care programme
- Lead of Robotics for health and social care in a multicultural perspective
- Lead of Innovation for accessible healthcare in low resource settings in India; Implementation of a technology supported NCD screening model
