Profile

I am a health economic modeller. My expertise is in decision analytical modelling and data analysis. I am proficient at using R, Simul8, Excel (with Visual Basic Application). I have had experience in developing cohort models and patient-level models for economic evaluation of health care interventions; and multiple-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) models. I have had experience in using SQL to manage a relational database and using R to analyse data. I am familiar with analysing data from Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) in the UK. I am familiar with using Health care Resource Group (HRG) for costing hospital episodes. I am familiar with the health care system and health technology appraisal (HTA) in the UK.

In January 2013, I joined ScHARR as a PhD student. My PhD was funded by The Department of Health's Policy Research Unit in Economic Evaluation of Health and Care Interventions (EEPRU). Previously I had one year working for Sanofi-Aventis in Vietnam as a product marketing manager; three months working for Novartis in Switzerland as an intern health economist; and more than a year working for GlaxoSmithKline in Vietnam as a medical communication specialist.

In October 2015, I started working part-time as a research associate in health economics in ScHARR. Since October 2016, I have been working full-time as a research associate in health economics in ScHARR.

Currently I am working in a modelling team to analyse Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) and develop a simulation model for evaluating options for the re-configuration of vascular services in the UK.

In my PhD, I developed a new patient-level cost-effectiveness model for the evaluation of different cognitive screening tests for early detection of dementia and mild cognitive impairment in primary care. I also looked at different methods for conducting economic evaluation in health care taking a broader/societal perspective. I investigated the use of techniques from Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) for economic evaluation.

Teaching activities

I am the deputy module leader for the module HAR692 Pharmaceutical Pricing in our online course MSc International Health Technology Assessment. I am involved in delivering tutorials for the module HAR672 Advanced Simulation Methods in our master course Health Economics and Decision Modelling. I am supervising master students doing dissertations from those courses.

Previously I was involved in designing, assessing and delivering tutorial sessions for the module HAR671 (Operational Research Techniques in Health Resources Allocation) in the master course Health Economics and Decision Modelling (HEDM) in ScHARR. I was also involved in helping the delivery of an online course in ScHARR (Valuing and Measuring Health).
