CUREd+ research database
We are conducting research that involves using patient records already held within the NHS and linking them together so we can understand how patients access services and what happens to them after this. The research is being conducted until the end of January 2027.
What information is used?
We will examine patient journeys through different health services between April 2011 to March 2023. The types of services we have included are:
For all of England
- Accident and Emergency
- Hospital admissions
- Outpatient care (day treatments in hospital)
- Mental health services
- Demographic data (eg gender)
- Death Registry data
For the Yorkshire and Humber Region
- Ambulance
- NHS 111 services
This means your data could be included.
No identifiable information will be held in the final Research Database (such as name or date of birth), meaning that it will not be possible to identify you from the data. Only appropriately trained personnel or postgraduate students supervised by trained personnel at the University of Sheffield will be able to work on approved projects using the Research Database.
The database will be stored in a secure computer environment where data cannot be removed or copied. This means that researchers do not have data on their own computers.
The Health Research Authority, on advice from the Confidentiality Advisory Group, has supported the processing of confidential patient information without consent under Regulation 5 of the Health Service (Control of Patient Information) Regulations 2002 (‘section 251 support’). The data held in the Research Database can only be used in research projects that are in the public interest.
How to opt out
For further information on the CUREd+ research data including how and why the University process your personal information, how we keep your information secure or if you would prefer your data not to be included in this Research Database, please email cured-plus@sheffield.ac.uk with your name and date of contact or phone Ric Campbell on +44 114 222 0887 before the 1 September 2022.
This is confidential and secure. Withdrawing your data from the study does not preclude you from further studies and will not affect your treatment in any way. Please see the CUREd+ study privacy notice for further information. If you have already set a national data opt-out with the NHS, your data will not be included in the database.
