I joined the ScHARR in 2009 as a Medical Statistician having previously worked for a number of years as a Genetic Statistician at Universities of Manchester, Western Australia and Sheffield.
Within the CTRU I am involved in the study design and analysis of clinical trials and currently work on three different clinical trials, TRIO, PLEASANT and HubBLe. TRIO study is investigating the differential effects of bisphosphonates on peripheral bone mineral density in post-menopausal women with osteoarthritis. PLEASANT seeks to investigate whether an interventional letter sent to the parents of children on preventative asthma medication ameliorates the seasonal spike in unscheduled medical contacts that occurs in such children in the month of September. HubBLe is comparing the recurrence of haemorrhoids after surgical treatment by one of two methods, haemorrhoid artery ligation (HAL) and rubber band ligation (RBL).
I assist with teaching statistics within the ScHARR and also carry out some research of my own, which is currently investigating the power (or lack of) of using percentage change from baseline as an outcome measurement.
