Streaking Meerkats member takes on a new challenge
Despite the chaos of the water shortage the Streaking Meerkats managed to successfully complete the Sheffield Half Marathon in April 2014 and raised £9,522.99 (including gift aid) for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and SITraN.
Streaking Meerkats team member Karen Beck (Section Manager in DTS) now faces a new challenge as team captain of “Beck's Bootcampers” who are undertaking the Global Corporate Challenge.
Karen’s team members from the DTS Section are Claire White, Dan Beever, John Etheridge and Debra Cable. Viv Walker and Annette Haywood from Public Health complete the team.
The Global Corporate Challenge is a workplace health and wellbeing programme aimed at changing the behaviour and improving the health of employees around the world. Teams of 7 undertake a 100 day virtual tour around the world. A daily target of 10,000 steps takes employees through a truly unique journey of daily discovery, reward and achievement. Each member wears a pedometer to record their daily steps – walking, running and playing sport. The journey started on 28 May 2014 and to date Beck's Bootcampers have completed 5,427,338 steps (2,158 miles).
Karen’s team member Claire White (P.A. to the Section Director of DTS) is no stranger to a challenge, Claire recently completed her first full marathon with her husband in Liverpool. They achieved their personal target of finishing under 4 hours and raising £1,600 for Parkinsons UK.
