The Meridian Study which was recently published in the Lancet revealed MRI scans are an accurate way of spotting brain defects in a developing baby. The results show that iuMR has an overall diagnostic accuracy of 93% compared to ultrasound at 68% when diagnosing fetal brain abnormalities. The additional information provided by the iuMR leads to significant changes in the clinical management of pregnancy. These findings are extremely important as we report highly significant, robust data which leads us to recommend that any pregnancy with a suspected fetal brain abnormality should be offered an iuMR to better inform the counselling and management decisions.
