I am extremely pleased to be working as the Research Impact Co-ordinator/Champion for ScHARR. This newly developed role is focused on strengthening pathways to impact across the range of research at ScHARR. It reflects the growing emphasis upon impact and the contributions that research can make to society.
Previously, I worked as the national co-ordinator for the KT-EQUAL programme - Knowledge Transfer for Extending Quality of Life - which focused on putting ageing and disability research into practice for the benefit of older and disabled people.
My background spans research and development within health and social care and education. This includes: undertaking commissioned evaluation research for community based projects, curriculum design and delivery including online and distance learning, development of online information for NHS services, working with industry and a range of volunteer roles. I initially trained as a teacher and enjoyed working in Sheffield secondary schools and as Senior Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University where I led a programme of Work Based Learning initiatives.
My research interests include:
- Opportunities presented by the use of technologies to assist and improve people’s lives
- Addressing the needs of an ageing population and also valuing the contributions of older people
- Research impact and knowledge exchange and how research can be used
- Stories - I am interested in how people telling their own stories can help to inform and shape health and care
I am currently involved with: co-tutoring as part of the Community Attachment Scheme for first year medical students, undertaking sessions as part of the MSc Clinical Research programme, Study Skills as part of Intro Week and acting as personal tutor for Masters students.
I act as a STEM Ambassador - a national programme to encourage more young people to understand the opportunities that a science, engineering or technology-based career can offer them.
